Hi, I'm Mackenzie!

The mind behind
"PloofWorks"

As a child, I was fascinated by little things.

Slimy earthworms wriggling through wet soil and navigating rocky obstacles. The soft purple irises and bright pink bleeding heart flowers filling my mother’s garden. That cavernous network of cracks invading our front pavement that irritated my father for two decades. Those small, complex details of the world were my favorite things to observe, and they often made their way into the various craft projects that occupied my childhood.

As a young adult, I decided to be an artist.

After 2D art fell flat for me in high school, I turned to three-dimensional mediums like ceramics, mixed media sculpture, and toy design. I went on to earn a BFA in Sculpture with a minor in Industrial Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Atlanta, Georgia. While there, I was introduced to large-scale fabrication methods like woodworking, welding, foam carving, and mold making. This experience opened a whole world of new creative possibilities for my life.

As a slightly older adult, I became a cake artist!

In 2021 I took my desire to create and made the leap into frosting and fondant. Now I carve cake, use icing as adhesive, and preoccupy myself with food safety procedures. I’m still learning a lot though, and my spoiled cat, Mabel, really appreciates all the practice cakes I bring home for her to critique (and sometimes sample!)
